Freemasons in Perth, WA

If you reside in Perth, Western Australia and have thought about becoming a Freemason, we would be delighted to hear from you!

How to join

If you are an upstanding sort of man, believe in a Supreme Being and are over 21 years old, then you qualify to join Freemasonry. While the requirements for becoming a Freemason are simple, the process is a formal one, as it has been for hundreds of years.

The first step to becoming a Freemason is to talk to one.

However, don't worry if you don’t know a Freemason, contact us directly via our web site at yganon@bigpond.net .au and someone from our Lodge will meet with you.

The different levels of Freemasonry

In the Middle Ages, when a person wished to join a craft he was apprenticed to learn the tools and skills of the trade. When he had proved his skills, he became a 'fellow of the craft' and when he had developed exceptional skills he became known as a 'master'.

Craft Freemasonry consists of the three degrees called the Entered Apprentice (1st Degree), the Fellow Craft (2nd Degree) and the Master Mason (3rd Degree). There is no higher degree than the Master Mason degree, although other branches of Freemasonry do confer degrees which go up to number 33, these are only a sign of further learning, not of higher rank.

Ionic Lodge No 186 WAC

Ionic Lodge No 186 (Western Australian Constitution) was consecrated at Mt. Hawthorn Masonic Hall on 8 November 1944, under the sponsorship of the Mt. Hawthorn Lodge No. 131. The ceremony was performed by a delegation of Grand Lodge officers, led by the Grand Master of the day, M.W. Bro. Dr J.S. Battye.

In 2011, the lodge moved to the Kingsley Masonic Centre.

Here are some of the basics:

Lodge meetings are men-only (but we do have separate events when wives and partners may attend).

We (that is - Ionic Lodge) meet once a month, on the third Wednesday evening at 7pm., although we recess in December and January. (Some other lodges meet in the daytime and we can make some suggestions if daytime meetings better suit your needs).

Our lodge meets in Kingsley in modern, comfortably air conditioned premises with ample off-street parking.

Meetings typically involve a “business” session followed by a “ceremonial” session. There is then a light supper, at which time members and visitors meet in relaxed, fraternal fellowship.

A variety of beverages, including alcoholic drinks, are served at the supper.

Meetings are normally formal, both in format and clothing.  The atmosphere is always dignified, and we never discuss religion or politics

Our lodge annual Dues are about $300, which covers rent, postage, insurance, etc. (Much cheaper than membership of the average golf club or yacht club!)

Finally, should you find that Freemasonry is not what you were looking for, you are at liberty to resign at any time.

Still Interested?   Then send us an email and we will respond.
